London to Paris Cyclists at the Eiffel Tower!

London to Paris 2011 at the Eiffel Tower

On the 15th September 2011, 57 cyclists from acorss the industry set off from Twickenham to ride 250 miles to Paris over three days and raise much needed funds for Caravan.

The first day saw the riders climb over 1,200m and cycle 70 miles through the beautiful countryside of the North and South Downs to finally arrive in Portsmouth. An early night was needed as day two required a very early start to catch the ferry over to Caen. After a short nap on the ferry, the cyclists set off for the village of Bernay, cycling 63 miles through some spectacular French countryside.

The final day and the task of cycling 100 miles! There was great excitement when we eventually reached our final destination - the Eiffel Tower - after having completed a couple of victory laps around the Arc de Triomphe. The day was finished off with a lovely celebration dinner and a well deserved glass of champagne!

Many thanks to all those companies who sponsored this challeng and to all the riders and companies that supported the event, it was a great success raising in excess of £60,000. Doug Hall, Trading Director for Beverages at SHS Sales & Marketing who took part this year commented: "It is a real challenge and at the same time very enjoyable. The preparation makes you a fitter person and the nature of the trip gives you a unique experience, whilst knowing you are doing some good for Caravan."

Next year, the London to Paris Cycle Challenge will take place on 13th to 16th September 2012. If you are interested in taking part of sponsoring this fantastic event, please contact events@caravan-charity.org.uk or call 01252 875925.
