Financial guidance is available from Caravan for cash strapped households, who according to a recent report from Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC), will need to find an extra £1,800 a year by 2015 just to cover the cost of interest on personal loans and credit cards.
The report highlighted that interest rates on credit cards and loans are expected to increase by between two and three percentage points in the coming four years, making a substantial difference to the amount the average household has to put towards debt repayment. Although, according to the report, a typical household reduced its unsecured borrowing by £500 last year, as families tried to pay down debts, they still owe about £8,000 on credit cards and personal loans.
