Beneficiaries Receive Welcome Bonus

Bonus payment for beneficiariesWe are pleased to announce that the March 2011 payment to beneficiaries will include a bonus of £50. This is a one-off payment agreed by the Trustees to help beneficiaries meet the extra winter heating bills, which may have been incurred during the recent cold weather.

The majority of our beneficiaries are former grocery industry workers living only on the state pension, which, after day-to-day living expenses are deducted, leaves them with only a few pounds in their pockets. In such cases, Caravan assists with an annual payment of £778, paid quarterly. This works out at £15 per week, which in many cases may more than double their disposable income.

In addition, Caravan collaborated with retailers and suppliers to make Christmas extra special for former industry workers, by giving away more than £110,000 in money-off vouchers and gift cards to beneficiaries of the industry charity. This fantastic amount is a huge increase on last year’s £100,000 and demonstrates increasing generosity in the industry and the genuine care and concern stakeholders have for their previous employees and colleagues.

Around 1,625 beneficiaries received the ‘virtual Christmas hampers’ from Caravan in December. Each hamper was worth more than £67 and helped to make the Christmas season that litVirtual Hamper wallettle bit more special.

Anyone wishing to enquire about the virtual hamper or the grants awarded to beneficiaries should contact Cathy Mercer at Caravan on tel. 01252 875925 or email info@caravan-charity.org.uk
